New London Ledge Light in Connecticut was comlete in 1909 with the tower being 58 feet tall. The beacon can be seen for
14 miles. The light was manned by the Coast Guard from 1939 to 1987 when the light was automated. (The Coast Guard does keep
the house up)
Ernie the keeper's wife ran off with a local ferry captain. Poor Ernie couldn't take the pain and jumped off the catwalk.
He still swabs the decks, sets boats adrift, blastst the fog horn, and unlocks doors.
